There are many things to consider when purchasing a new dog bed. Size is obviously a big one! It is better to oversize than not have something large enough. For large breeds, that may mean getting the largest bed possible. You want your pet to feel comfortable and safe in their piece of furniture in your home, and hanging off the sides may not only be silly looking, it could lead to hip and lower back problems for Fido.

If your dog is still in the chewing stage, you may want to consider a material that is resistant to chewing. Also bear in mind the color of your dog’s fur if it is a shedder. Being able to slightly conceal its fur in a similar colored bed can be a plus, especially during the summer shedding months – even if you are constantly vacuuming the bed.
