21 Nov 11 The Right Carpet Cleaners in Calgary Offers Improved Air Quality

We hear all the time how the air outside is getting more and more polluted in our industrialized society. Did you realize that our homes actually trap any of these outdoor pollutants that get in alone with all of the other junk we add to the air inside our homes ourselves from cooking, to candles, to sprays and even the furniture and fixtures we buy? All of it adds invisible allergens and pollutants to our indoor air.

Luckily there is one thing in our home that actually helps to trap and filter the junk in our air, keeping much of it out of the air our family and us breathe. That thing is actually your carpets and they are not just soft and warm to walk on but represent the largest filter medium in your entire home, unless of course you have bought into the outdated rubbish that carpets are bad and have long since replaced them with all hard surfaces.

The old theory that carpets were full of allergens and needed to be replaced was only partly true. The fact is carpets can trap and filter allergens out of our air for us but getting rid of your carpets certainly does not stop the allergens and pollutants from invading out homes. So the correct response it to vacuum the loose debris and trapped microscopic particles out of your carpets once or twice a week with an approved, HEPA filtered vacuum and schedule regular, professional carpet cleaning visits to remove the more embedded stuff that sticks to your carpet and won’t vacuum off.

Not every Calgary carpet cleaner offers a method that has the ability to clean at this level, most just clean for looks and actually leave behind sticky residues from their detergents. A select few professional carpet cleaning firms in Calgary offer a safe, natural cleaning that doesn’t require soaps or detergents to do the job right. These methods dry much quicker, and safer for your carpet and home and provide the advanced level of carpet cleaning you require to not only improve your carpets appearance but more importantly to improve the quality of your homes indoor environment.

03 Nov 11 Animals and Criminal Psychology

Thanks to the nature of humanity, our children are brought up around very strict ways of thought regarding wildlife, and if they are not taught properly we may be shaping their outlook on nature for the rest of their lives. With zoos and circuses still operating, we’re showing a future where humanity has dominance over the creatures of the wild, and this may be a harmful thought for those growing up.

In studies, it has been shown that there is a direct correlation between animal abuse and a criminal record, showing that those who harm animals as a child are much more likely to become criminals as they grow older. There have been a number of offenders in the past that have admitted to animal cruelty as children, a sure confirmation that this is something that should be investigated and prevented.

Interactions with animals as a child can help the terminally shy to make new friends and learn how to socialise, it helps children understand ownership, boundaries, relations and responsibility, as well as helping those with disabilities, such as autism or lost limbs. Working and guide dogs are a recognised and respected part of our society, and are given more leeway than other pets. But what kind of influence can children get from elsewhere?

Studies show that children who visit zoos often may not understand the nature of the animals held there, and might not understand the nature of wildlife loss. A monkey loses the human links and cognitive abilities like forethought, planning or emotion and becomes ‘just’ another monkey, sitting in a zoo to be looked and laughed at. Wild animals stop being concerned about, because you can always ‘just visit the zoo’ to see them. It causes a detached view on the animal world that may explain the correlation between cruelty to animals and violence towards humans.

Children need to be socialised correctly towards animals and taught the boundaries; that it is not okay to pull on the cat’s tail, or to sit on the dog’s head. They should be read stories that do not paint animals in a negative light, or use certain animal stereotypes as the ‘bad’ guys; fear is bred through the unknown and the experience, and by making an animal seem ‘evil’ or ‘malicious’ in stories we are reinforcing those stereotypes for reality.

Children that visit zoos should be informed of the plight of wild animals and use the trip to be taught what they can do to help animals around the world, and maybe even be given the opportunity to volunteer. You don’t have to turn your children into eco-warriors, just help them understand that not everything is perfect in the animal kingdom, and that humans have the capability to help where they can. This can be used to help them understand recycling as well, and even show them the effect of humans on the animal world.

We aren’t saying that every child will be a bad person if they don’t understand or socialise with animals, but we do believe that making the most of the animal kingdom can help your child grow maturely and with a greater understanding of the wilder world. Children may hurt animals for a number of different reasons, and should be thoroughly investigated with a professional if your child begins exhibiting these behaviours.

17 Jul 11 Pitbull training tips : House Training

Time for paper training

Let’s discuss about our house pitbull training. During the time that the pitbull puppy is confined in its little den, it will begin to develop the habit of eliminating on paper. After a little time has passed, the pitbull puppy will begin to exhibit a preferred place to eliminate. After this preferred spot has been established, the area that is papered should be slowly diminished. The first papers to be removed should be those that are furthest away from the “toilet”. Eventually, the owner will have to lay down only a few papers. If the pitbull puppy ever misses those papers, it means that the papered area has been reduced too much and too soon.

After the pitbull puppy is reliability doing its business only on the papers that have been left, the papers can be slowly and gradually moved to a location of your choice. The papers should be moved only gradually, as little as an inch a day. If the pitbull puppy misses the papers, again it means that they have been moved too soon and too far. In this case it will be necessary to go back a few steps and start over. It is important not to become discouraged. The pitbull puppy will eventually understand the concept, and you will be able to choose your puppies toilet area and move on to the next step.

House training when the owner is home

Obviously the more time you can spend with your pitbull puppy the faster the house training will go. The objective should be to take the pitbull puppy to the toilet area every time he needs to do his business. In most cases this will be either every 45 minutes, right after each play session, after he first wakes up or right after he eats or drinks. It is important to provide effusive praise for the pitbull puppy when he eliminates in the established toilet area.

As the pitbull puppy becomes more used to using his toilet area, and as he develops improved bladder and bowel control, he will be able to begin spending more and more time outside his den with his owner in the rest of the home. It is important to begin this process by allowing the pitbull puppy access to one room at a time. It is also important to allow the pitbull puppy in the extra room only when he can be supervised. When you must leave the room, be sure to put the pitbull puppy back in his den.

Get a proper pitbull training strategy, it will very reward-full

12 Apr 11 The Best Ferret Cage for a Happy Ferret

The ferret cages that you purchase will need plenty of space for your ferret to explore and hang out in everyday. They are really curious and will get easily bored and maybe cranky if the feel too cooped up. The higher end cages tend to be taller and have several levels for the ferret to clamber all around on and check out. Since ferrets sleep the majority of the daylight hours they will need a couple comfy places to choose from. Almost all ferret cages include hammocks for your pet to lounge in. Providing at least one hammock is important for the ferret cage. Providing multiple hammocks is ideal since this presents the ferret multiple spots to select from. Also ideal would be to provide your ferret with solid platforms and ladders within the cage. Wire mesh ends up being pretty hard on their paws, so search for a cage that gives you options here. If there is a big stretch or jump inside the ferret cage in between levels getting ladders or other stairs will be best too. You wouldn’t want your ferret to get hurt itself if it falls a long distance trying to jump from place to place.

26 Feb 11 Why Is Pet Grooming Important

Exactly why is pet grooming necessary? Regardless of whether you’ve got a kitty of doggie, pet grooming is a valuable part of the hygiene and emotional well being of your four-legged friend. Doesn’t feel great when you’re getting your hair cut or fingernails done? Consider not having the luxury of choosing when and how you wash yourself. Your animal friends do not have that benefit. Certainly they groom themselves using their tongue and paws, but without an opposing thumb they cannot grab a scrub brush and wash their own back and the opportunity to reach hard to get at areas. They need the care and love of their care providers and pet grooming lets them know that they’re getting their needs satisfied.

Even when you get a new puppy dog or kitten, pet grooming is very important technique to cultivate the bonding practices. As you brush or wash your pet, the constant touching and soothing gives the young animal a sense of well-being. The bond between caregiver and pet becomes more powerful as more attention is offered to the pet. The early connection of pet grooming also prepares the animal for a professional pet groomer as hair or nails turn out to be to difficult for the untrained owner. The pet could have a much more of a sense of protection since they are left at a pet groomer for a day and will manage less negative feelings as they are touched and groomed by a complete stranger.

Pet grooming at a early age furthermore enables the animal to get familiar with the tools and apparatus used in the pet grooming encounter. Scissors and brushes can be terrifying things to a newcomer puppy or kitten. Initial reaction of the animal is to bite or claw at the brush. There is a unfamiliar instrument yanking and brushing their hair and their normal response is to protect themselves. By going slower and making use of soothing sounds, the owner can slowly but surely introduce the new animal towards the method. As the grooming continues on and the animal can feel more comfortable, stronger strokes could be applied. As confidence and bonding builds the whole pet grooming process can be employed.

Another aspect of pet grooming is cutting or trimming the nails of your animal. Especially for indoors house animals, if the nails are not cut the right way they’re going to have a tendency to grow around within themselves and become very painful for the animal simply to walk on. Furthermore the nails may crack much easier if left unmonitored leaving ugly breaks and an annoying feeling in their paws. If appropriate pet grooming is started early enough, the pet will grow in emotional maturity and you will have a well balanced animal that will contain the benefits associated with very good hygiene and good health. Pet grooming will end up a habit that both the pet along with the owner will count on their time in concert on a daily basis. The value of pet grooming will spread to be a household experience as spouses and siblings will pick-up brush and spend more time with the household animal. The psychological security will spread all through the household and pet and household can become one.

26 Nov 10 Dog Bathing Tips and Information

Effectively bathing your dog and best friend is to make certain you are in a safe and secure environment. If you’re putting your using a tub or a sink to wash your dog please make sure that they are not likely to slip.

You want your pet to be safe too and not fall also, putting a rubber mat in the tub or sink will give your pet a feeling of being safe too. A rubber door mat works well for this purpose also. Also be sure that you are not going to fall or slip if water gets splashed on to the floor. You don’t want to have to go to the hospital and tell the nurse on duty that you got injured while giving your dog a bath.

If you use a hose to bath your dog outdoors, be certain that you’re in an area where they feel safe, and that, if they pull away from your grasp, they will not be able to run into any street traffic.

Before you begin washing your pet make sure that the shampoo you happen to be using is very mild. Shampoos which are uniquely developed for your pet’s species would be better simply because they wont strip your pets coat of the natural oils that they need for healthy skin. If you have to make use of a human being shampoo try to use one that is intended for infant children. Be sure that the shampoo you are using to wash your pet is unscented. Washing your dog with shampoo that smells like flowers only will encourage him to find a dead fish to use to hide the fragrance. Fragrant Perfumed shampoos may make you smell nice but they are very bad for your pets sensitive skin.

09 Nov 10 How Dogs Communicate?

Dogs are among the most intelligent domestic pets there are. Pet dogs have the ability to communicate with humans, other dogs as well as other animals. Hey use different body signals and use various vocals. The twelve signs are made by using motion involving eyes, ears, eyebrows, head, mouth and tail. Different vocals include barks, howls, growls, whimpers and whines. Confident and better ranked dogs have a high held tail.

Dogs have the feeling of submission and dominance inside them. This is because the dogs reside in packs, within the wild. They have hierarchy inside the group. The weaker dogs submit themselves to the stronger dog. That’s the reason why dogs lower their tail once they feel insecure. Once the dogs fight for dominance, the fur on their tail stacks up. They and even other animals, do this to increase their size in front of their enemy.

07 Oct 10 Piggy costumes

Pigs and human beings have a long history as both species have lived closed to each other for thousands of years. There is evidence that humans domesticated pigs as far back as 12,000 to 13,000BC. Archaelogists have found evidence of humans and pigs living together in the Tigris region in what was used to be the Persian empire.

After being domesticated for many generations, ancient wild boars eventually evolved into the domesticated pig. Historians also believe that pigs were also domesticated many years ago in China. Domesticated pigs were introduced into the Americas by Spanish explorers.Nowadays, pigs are kept for many purposes, for their meat, hide, bristles, pets and even for organ transplants. Pigs bred for organ transplants are genetically modified so that the organ transplants are not rejected by humans.

As such, an infant pig costume and piggy nose costume are always very popular during Halloween season for little kids and toddlers.

26 Aug 10 Cat Costumes for Your Little Cat Lover

Another Halloween is coming, and it’s time to think of that most adorable costume for your little one. If he or she loves cats, why not a cute baby cat costume? There are a lot of plush and comfortable animal costumes available, and in many different colors. Black cats, pink, brown, white, you name it!

Along with furry animals, there are also many character cat costumes your child may love. Does he love Cat in the Hat? There’s a costume for that! You’ll likely see many Cheshire Cats from Alice in Wonderland at your door this year, all of them equally cute with their mischievous grin. Finally, there’s the Puss n’ Boots costume, from a traditional fairy tale character recently made popular again with the Shrek movies, will see many toddlers and kids in costume with a rapier wit!

To really up your child’s cat costume, though, try face painting as well! Face masks can be dangerous and impede your child’s vision, which can cause accidents on the street, especially as most trick or treating takes place after dark and in low light. With face painting, not only can your child see clearly, but you can also add some non-toxic white paint for better visiblity by a driver.

Making Your Own Kitty Cat Costume

First, though, if you decide to make a cat costume, this is how to go about doing it. Gather these materials for a cat:

  • Solid color shirt, depending on the color of cat you wish to dress as – black, pink, white, brown, etc
  • Arm warmers and leg warmers in a different color from your clothing to create a nice contrast and accent
  • Leggings that match the color of the shirt
  • Headband
  • cardboard tube and a flat piece of cardboard
  • Felt fabric to make the ears and tail
  • Safety Pins
  • Glue gun

This is how to begin. For the tail, cut your felt fabric and wrap it around the cardboard tube. Hot glue the seam. Stuff the tube with crumpled newspaper to give it some body, then bend the tail in a couple places to give it shape.

Next, cut triangular shapes out of the cardboard and hot glue extra fabric around it. Glue the ears to the headband.

Dress your child in the shirt and leggings, then the arm and leg warmers. Pin the tail to the back using safety pins, and put on the headband.

Done! No, not quite. Time for the makeup.

Make Your Own Facepaint

Here’s a simple recipe:

  • 1/2 cup cold cream
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • Desired colors using drops of food coloring and mixing

Mix in a small bowl until you achieve the thickness you want. Add some water if it’s too thick, more cornstarch if it’s too thin. Then, with a brush, paint your child’s face, mainly the nose, whiskers and around the eyes.

Hopefully your pet cat will approve with two paws up! Have a great Halloween!

01 Aug 10 Teaching Kids And Pets To Co-Exist Peacefully

One of the biggest concerns that new parents have when it comes to pets in the home is how it will react to a baby. Many of the old wives tales such as cats sucking the breath out of babies simply are not true. In fact, many cats and dogs readily accept a new child into the home and become fiercely loyal and protective over the baby.

When you bring your baby home from the hospital, you should introduce your pet to your new baby. Of course, these introductions need supervision. Allow your cat or dog time to sniff your child at his or her own pace. Make the introduction pleasant for your cat or dog. In most cases, your cat or dog will not give your baby a second thought. Allow your pet to adjust to the new situation on his or her own terms. When a baby comes to the house, it is an adjustment for everybody.

The other thing that you might want to consider doing when you bring a baby into the home is to make sure that your cat or dog is properly groomed. This includes trimming your dog or cat nails. Your dog may want to put a paw on your baby. If his or hers nails are long and sharp, your dog may accidentally scratch your infant. While you can never eliminate pet hair from your home, if your dog or cat clipped and brushed it will certainly help your home stay a little cleaner. Many new parents also worry about allergies. The fact is, many studies have shown that children who are exposed to pets from a very young age, actually have less pet allergies than children who are not exposed to pets.

As your child grows, you need to begin teaching your child proper pet etiquette. If your dog or cat has learned to respect your child, then your child also needs to learn to respect your pet. Teach your child from a young age that they should never pull or yank a cat or dog’s tail or ears. Your child can learn proper pet etiquette even at a very young age. You will also want to teach your child to respect your pet’s space. This includes making sure that your child understands that he or she should never wake a sleeping pet. This could cause your pet to become startled and could result in biting or scratching.
In addition, you will want to make sure that your child understands to stay out of your pet’s food, water and litter box. Your child will be naturally curious, so it is always best to give your pet some private space away from your child.

There are many things you can do to make sure that children and pets coexist peacefully. Holidays and family events is a great way to celebrate with your favored pet. Just imagine your canine friend in a Elvis dog costume and your offspring in children’s pirate costume going treat’n'tricking together… Even if it sounds and looks rediculous, there is a great frinedship in those two.

In short – your children and pets need to learn to respect each other from the very beginning. There is no reason to get rid of your cat or dog just because you have a child in the home.
