There is nothing like taking a long pleasant walk on a nice day with your best furry friend, your dog. Depending on where you are going, though, it is important that you have enough control over your furry friend to prevent him or her from breaking away from you and running away or running into traffic. It is good to have a harness for your dog to help you maintain control over how far your dog roams. Harnesses are made to fit around the chest and back area of your dog and are used as a security measure. So if your dog tries to break away from your grip, you can restrain him or her safely without causing the animal any harm.
In order for the harness to be used safely on your animal, you will need to find a harness that has an appropriate fit for your animal. This means that when you purchase your harness, you either need to take your dog with you to be fitted, or you need to take your dog’s measurements to take with you prior to purchasing. When you do this, you are ensuring that you will provide the best fitted harnesses for dogs. This should result in safer and happier pet walking.

Many dog owners now swear by the Citronella Anti Bark Collar as being a really effective way to stop unwanted and annoying dog barking.
There are a number of Anti Bark Collars on the market however, whether you’re looking for a large or Small Dog Bark Collar the Citronella Anti Bark Collar is considered to be the most humane method to treat dog barking problems. They are much preferred to the use of shock collars which in parts of the world are banned as they are considered to be too cruel to the animal.
One of the major causes of complaint between neighbours is uncontrolled barking.
In a Citronella Anti Bark Collar a very fine citrous scented mist is sprayed in the direction of a dogs muzzle every time it detects your dog barking.
The citrous spray, whilst offensive, is in no way harmful to your dog. A Citronella Anti Bark Collar will in fact work on a number of your dogs senses. Initially, the dog hears it, then sees it, feels it and lastly smells it. It is this combination of factors which disturb the dog and results in an interruption to the unwanted behaviour.

I have seen everything now; they have custom dog collars that I saw the other day when I went shopping. I really had to look twice once at the dog and the other time at the owner. The dog I saw was a British Bull Dog you know the ones they are thickset stocky dogs and drool everywhere. This particular dog was wearing a leather collar, studded with silver spikes on it along with the leather vest to match. Looking over at the owner and he too was wearing a leather studded belt along with he’s leather jacket and pants. How novel I thought not only did the owner purchase a practical collar with the dogs name written on it he had also customized it to match what he was wearing.
That got me thinking how individual the collars looked and completely different than the usual collars are out now a days. I flicked through a magazine and saw Paris Hilton carrying her pooch and he had diamonds embedded into her collar, they were probably real diamonds no doubt. Hmmm think I will take Muffet to try on a custom collar next time we are out!

Most towns in America have laws from preventing dogs from running around with out a leash. But despite of leash laws, dog owners do not seem to care. Many a delivery person or postal worker can attest to the frequent incidences they encounter with dogs whose owner don’t bother with dog containment.
Some dog owners set up a fence for dog containment. However, this might not be enough. With the right incentive, it is not unheard of that a dog jump over a 6 foot fence. An effective dog containment system might consist of a chain linked to a poll, of such a size that your dog can run freely around without being of danger to anyone else.
Another tip is to chain your dog near his or her dog house. That they have the comfort of their home, food and water, near by.
Training Chihuahuas With Praise And Affection
You don’t have to go to an obedience class to start training Chihuahuas. In fact, Chihuahuas are some of the easiest dogs to train. Classes for big, out of control dogs aren’t appropriate for this breed. You don’t need to dominate and force this dog to obey. In fact, training Chihuahuas should either be done on your own or in classes with other small dogs.
One way of training Chihuahuas is with a ticker. You teach your pet that a “click” means a reward is coming. Then, over time, you only click when your dog has done something you want it to do. This reinforces the behavior.
Chihuahuas respond best to gentle training techniques. Here are some things to keep in mind when training Chihuahuas.
1. You should guide, not force your dog. Chihuahuas want to please their human companions. If you show them what pleases you, they will be quick to comply. But if you force them, a stubborn streak comes out.
2. Training Chihuahuas does not require punishment. Gentle correction is almost always sufficient for getting the dog to do what you want.
3. Reward the dog when he or she pleases you. This will let him know what he should do. Always accent the positive when training Chihuahuas.
4. Chihuahuas respond well to food based reinforcement. Don’t start a Chihuahua training session when the dog has just eaten. Working on an empty stomach tends to get the best results.
5. You should keep training sessions short and fun. A Chihuahua training experience should be no more than 10 minutes at a time. You should also begin and end the session with something the dog already does well.
6. Avoid training when you are already tired and angry. Chihuahuas need your love and patience.
Chihuahuas are intelligent dogs. They don’t hunt, herd, or guard so they can’t “show off” the way other breeds do. But this doesn’t mean that they don’t like to do tricks. In fact, they often show what they can do through obedience and agility trials. Even if you don’t compete in formal competitions with your dog, you can enjoy training Chihuahuas.
In training Chihuahuas you should always be gentle with them. Don’t try to use choke collars because their necks can get hurt easily.
