The history of the Pug dates back to 400 B.C. making them one of the oldest breeds of dogs. Researchers have concluded the Pug breed originates from Asia when looking at the comparisons to the Pekingese breed.

Pugs were first seen in China where their owners were living in Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. They soon appeared in Japan and Europe and became popular when Prince William II became the King of England and had a Pug for his pet.

A Pug is a perfect pet known for their playfulness, even-tempers, and loving, outgoing personalities. Pugs require a lot of human affection and their main purpose in life is to please their owner making them a perfect choice for a family pet.

In 1885 the Pug breed was recognized in the American Kennel Club. They weigh approximately 14- 18 pounds, when they do shed fur their fine, short, soft coat makes them a perfect type of dog for apartment lifestyles.

The Pug may suffer from certain health issues such as being over weight, getting overheated and pharyngeal reflex. They also may suffer from two fatal conditions called necrotizing meningoencephalitis and hemivertebrae. The Pug owner must take special care to assure to keep their ears clean and the folds of their skin on their pug face clean.
