I’m always a little surprised by how many small pet stores there are in my city. Oh, sure, there are plenty of PetSmart and Petco stores, but there are such a big number of individually owned mom-and-pop pet shops.
Some cater to the farmer or the hobby farmer and some of them specialize in specific topics such as backyard ponds or exotic birds. But for the most part, most of these small stores try to carry supplies for all types of domestic pets.
I do my best to drive past the superstore chains to support these local merchants, but to be honest, I love shopping online as well. So there are times when I shop for my cat supplies at one of the good online cat stores. I support my local pet store owner as much as possible because I know they love their pets and that’s why they opened their store to begin with. I’ll shop around online a little bit, but I want to give them most of my business.
