08 Feb 10 How to Choose Bird Cages

If you’re thinking about buying a pet bird then choosing the right bird cage is important. There are a huge number of different species of bird though and the type of bird cages you’ll require will depend on which type you go for. Here are some of the things you should think about when buying bird cages.

In general, the bigger the cage the better for your bird. A large bird cage will provide your pets with as much room as possible to stretch their wings. Many bird owners think that the recommended size of a cage for a particular bird is a guideline but in fact it’s the minimum size. If you want your bird to be happy and healthy then a small bird cage isn’t a good idea.

The bar spacing is an obvious consideration although it’s something you don’t want to overlook. For example, the bar spacing in a parakeet bird cage may not be the same as for a dove so you need to know how big the bird is before choosing a cage.

When looking at bird cages for sale another important consideration is the shape of the cage. There’s no point buying large bird cages for your pets if the cage isn’t a shape that allows them to use it. If you plan on keeping your birds in the cage all the time then make sure you choose large bird cages that are longer than they are high as this allows the most room for flight.

You should never look for cheap bird cages just to save money because it’s important to provide your birds with the highest quality cage possible. Remember, birds can live a long time so the cage you buy will be an investment and a higher quality model will be safer in the long run.
