Flea Control
Do you have a pet? Or maybe you're one of those animal lovers, who have several cats and dogs. Well, I guess the big question would be; do you keep them inside? If your answer is yes, then you've probably dealt with the issue of flea control. This especially applies to those who allow their pets to run in and out all day. Man, are you guys leaving yourselves susceptible to a flea invasion. Those nasty little bugs never leave you alone once they've penetrated the home. They bounce around on the furniture and carpet in search of pets to nibble on. What really stinks is that they can even go after you if they can't find any animals. That's why it's time for some serious flea control.
What do you do to get rid of fleas? Did you test out those fog cans? You know, the ones that you place in the center of each room and they blow your house full of some smoky chemicals. Of course you have to vacate the premises for like 5 hours when you do this. The sad thing is that in my experience this method did not even work. It was one form of flea control that cost me more hassle than it did me good. In the end, that yucky film goes all over everything. I'm talking, you have to wash all the bedding and wipe off the counters. It's a real hassle. Fortunately there are other methods of flea control. A few years back, my home was invaded with tons of these tiny, irksome bugs. I decided it was time to pull out the big guns. I wasn't sure how I acquired this dilemma in the first place. It's not like we had pets that went in and out. We owned one indoor cat and that was it. I came to the conclusion that the fleas must have gained access to our humble abode via our pant legs or shoes. Regardless, I called an exterminator for help. This was the best form of flea control I had encountered. The exterminator came in, treated every room by spraying some kind of poison around the edges of the carpet, and then he left. This treatment was the bomb! I mean the fleas disappeared. Apparently they all progress to the outside of the carpet and die. Oh, and he also gave us a flea control medication to dab on the back of our cat's neck. In the end, I have to recommend this route to flea control. I guess the professionals know what they're doing. Many people like to express themselves through their front doormats. It is the first point of contact for the visitor and mats used to simply say, welcome. Nowadays, there is all manner of funny doormats that greet people. Some demand that the reader has their sense of humor intact. There are subtle, brash, insulting and clever captions available on the mats.
Mats for pet owners are very popular, especially in homes where dogs or cats rule the roost. Sentiments such as Cat is God, The Cat and Its Housekeeping Staff Reside Here and Don't Make Me Come Out There (signed by the dog) show who is in charge. Some funny doormats have the simple message, Wipe Your Paws. Another dog authored one begins a long plea with the words, My Captors Continue to Torment Me etc.
Alcohol is another favorite theme, the house owners declaring an exaggerated, hopefully, need for beer or wine. Hence the question, got beer? That's before anyone has got past the door. Another mat declares We Serve Only the Finest Californian Wines, Did You Bring Any?
Hobbies are another subject, mostly involving playing golf or going fishing. A golf widow or widower will buy A Golfer and a Normal Person Live Here or Working Is For People Who Don't Golf. Card sharps can put out a mat with a picture of playing cards on poker night to say Game Underway-Do Not Disturb. Funny doormats keep up with the times and there is one for the latest craze for sudoku. A picture of a sudoko grid carries the caption, While You Wait. Parents also can identify with certain messages on mats. One simply says Mom's Fast Food. Another says Ring Bell, Win A Kid.
For people who are fed up with door to door salespeople and the like, there is We Love Our Vacuum, We've Found God and We Gave at the Office-Now Please Go Away. Funny doormats are not always polite, as in All Welcome Except You, Did You Remember to Wipe, Go Away and stop Thief. Law enforcement is given short thrift with Come Back With a Warrant. Burglars are shown a helping hand with Key Hidden Here, accompanied by an arrow pointing to behind the mat. The simplest, yet cleverest caption has to be Hi, I'm Mat. Perhaps one day, someone will open up a museum of funny doormats. This will be amusing and also give a snapshot of out times for future generations.
