Carpet Stores
I never realized how much a pain getting carpet was. You see, I have just entered a new relationship. In my last relationship, my wife made all of the decisions about our home decoration. She had very strong opinions about everything, and I did not. It was easier for both of us if she just made the decisions. In this one, however, we have a much more equal role. This is a good thing in many ways. It is nice to know that my opinion matters. The problem is that some decisions are just a headache. I don't miss not having to go to carpet stores and pick out carpets. The carpet outlet stores are a complete nightmare.
The problem is that carpet stores are anything but neatly arranged. In general, I am a very fastidious person. When I go to a carpet store, I expect to see everything put into neat piles. There should be a book of carpet tiles that you can look at to pick out which carpet you want. Carpet prices should be clearly marked on everything.
In reality, however, the carpet stores are anything but organized. Basically, the one we went to was a giant carpet warehouse. It was filled from top to bottom with carpets, rolled up and stuck in every single corner. It was impossible to find the prices on an individual piece of carpet. It depended if you were getting it right off the roll, getting a large section that someone didn't need, or getting something that had been remaindered. I have heard that this is pretty typical in carpet stores. They don't sell carpet at standard rates. They sell it at a piece by piece rate.
The problem is that the only way to get a good deal is to go to the discount carpet stores. If you are willing to forsake a deal, you can go to carpet sellers that are very well organized. The smaller, more commercial ones are set up neatly. The carpet prices are all marked the way I would like them to be. There is always a supply of everything you want. The problem is that these carpet stores are extremely expensive. Going to wholesale carpet stores makes much more sense. No one wants to spend extra money, but I can't stand the headache anymore. I do not think that I can put up with the disorganization in these carpet stores for much longer.
Cat Christmas Ornament
I am a cat lover. I share my home with two very special felines. My husband often complains that I devote a great deal more attention and time to the cats than I do to him. When I was growing up we had pet cats. I used them as my dolls; dressing them up in doll clothes and having them drink milk out of bottles.
I am also a lover of Christmas. I love everything there is about the season from the decorating, shopping entertaining and cooking. This year as I was looking through my holiday decorations I realized that my two passions have not been lost on my friends and family members. I had never noticed the number of decorations that I had that have cat Christmas ornament themes. This is quite surprising since I have never bought a cat Christmas ornament for myself.
As I was going through the decorations I started to put aside the decorations that had cats on them. I had a cat Christmas ornament that was dressed like Santa Claus. There was another cat Christmas ornament that had a kitty in a holiday stocking and I had two that had cats dressed up like angels. There were fifteen other ornaments that were various size cats with bows around their necks. I knew that my first cat Christmas ornament was from my mother when I was a young girl, but I had no idea that they had multiplied over the years. The funny thing to me is that my husband and I raise and train hunting dogs. We have been doing this since we first were married. I found one dog Christmas ornament and that one I had purchased for my husband.
I mentioned this to my husband when he returned home from work. I showed him the number of cat decorations that I had come across. He was surprised by the number also. He said that if someone would have asked him he would have remembered one cat Christmas ornament and that is the one that my mother had given to me when I was a child. He knows that this is a special ornament to me because it is from my childhood. I told him that maybe we should go with an all cat theme for Christmas this year, we could get special outfits for the cats and I could dress them up like I did when I was a little girl. We could have tuna for Christmas dinner. His only response was to say that he hoped I was joking. I was joking about the tuna, but I do think I am going to see if I can find a nice outfit for each cat for the holidays.
Cat Door Mat
Everyone seems to have a certain like or taste for one particular thing. Many times this like will turn into a collection of related objects because others decide to buy things for you that are related to the things that you like. Some times these collections start and no one knows why. My sister for example presently has a wide assortment of items with chickens on them. She has chicken figurines, plates, towels, serving platters and stuffed chickens. She has her new kitchen decorated to display this collection, but she is not sure how she became known as a chicken collector.
I have a cat collection. It only takes most people about ten minutes to find out that I am a cat lover. I have two cats that live with us and hundreds of items that have cats on them. My husband bought me a curio cabinet to put my cat figurines in. It is a corner curio that we have placed in the dining area. My sister gave me a cat door mat that was shaped like a cat and was covered in paw prints. There is something about the cat door mat that attracts my Siamese cat. The first time he saw it he rolled on it and lay down and claimed it as his own. When my sister bought the cat door mat she had thought it would look nice on the floor in front of the curio. She was right the cat door mat does look very nice there. Placing the rug there has not discouraged the Siamese from sleeping on it. This is like an added bonus because now I have my beautiful Siamese cat on display with the rest of my cat statues.
In addition to figurines I have scarves that have cat print material as well as a hand bag. My largest collection by far is cat pins. Several years ago I bought a gold cat pin that I thought was very pretty. I work in an office setting were business casual attire is required. I would wear the cat pin on the lapel of my blazer. Soon I started receiving other cat pins for birthday presents and Christmas presents. People would tell me they saw the pins and thought of me. I have fifteen cat Christmas pins. In addition to the ones that have a Christmas theme I also have over twenty other cat pins. It has become my trademark. People in the office stop to check out which pin I am wearing each day.
From the cat door mat to the pins and figurines I have been labeled the cat person by friends and family. I do draw the line at wearing cat print clothing.
Cat Flea Medicine
If you have pets you know that fleas can really be a big annoyance. If you are allergic to fleas your self you may find that they are painfully irritating as well. A good cat flea medicine can help you keep pest free all year long.
I am allergic to bites from fleas and I have had my share of painful experiences with these little buggers. I know that when I see my pet scratching and squirming that I need to invest in a cat flea medicine that will do the trick, not only for my cat but for me as well. I will get nasty welts from a few bites and I want to avoid this by any means possible.
I try to keep my pets chemical free so I avoided getting cat flea medicine in order to try natural methods instead. Nothing really worked. Most of the home remedies for these pests are lacking and they are basically ineffectual. One item did a little better than the rest.
A flea comb is a good method that can replace cat flea medicine but I don't recommend it on a regular basis. The comb is useful when your cat is unable to take medication because she is having kittens or she is nursing kittens. Cat flea medicine is not for pregnant and nursing cats.
I make sure to use the comb instead when a feline is expecting a litter and when she is nursing them. Once the kittens are grown and ready to move on I start the mother on the cat flea medication again after consulting with the vet.
Since I have cats and dogs in my house I use two different treatments. It is important to remember that dog and cat flea medicine are quite different from one another. You should avoid using dog products on felines because they can be harsh on your kitty's system.
This can be a little tricky. Some bottles are difficult to read and others can be really vague. Just because a product boasts insect control does not mean that it is cat flea medicine. You really want a product designed specifically for your pet. When in doubt, talk to you vet.
I found that the veterinarian is the single most important resource when it comes to making sure that my home stays flea-free. The perfect cat flea medicine will be preventative in nature. Hopefully, we won't see another one ever again.
Cat Litter Box 2
For those of us who choose to own pets, there's some definite responsibility involved. Not only do house pets need fed, groomed and cared for in a medical sense on a routine basis, but they additionally need a place to use the bathroom at any given moment during the day or night. While dogs require an owner to take them outdoors all the time, cats simply require a cat litter box. Okay, so this sounds fairly straight forward and simple, however, a cat litter box can be more of a hassle that originally anticipated. Trust me; I know all about this aspect of caring for a housecat. After all, I have three of them, and none of them are too tidy about using the litter box. This is why a special cat litter box is required for the job.
All litter boxes are definitely not created equally! There's the old-school, manual cat litter box that basically sits somewhere in your house, basement or garage with the litter completely exposed. The cat steps in, uses the bathroom and then proceeds to kick litter all over the place, attempting to cover up his/her mess. While this litter box does still work, it can be a bit messy and quite stinky at times. Then you have the enclosed cat litter boxes. These are a step up in regards to keeping most of the cat litter inside the box, but they can also stink to high heaven, if not emptied on a regular basis, which is almost daily if you have multiple cats. Finally there are automatic litter boxes for felines. These are quite the new-age concept to say the least. The cat steps in the open litter box to do his/her business, and then is warned by a beeping noise to get out. Once the cat steps out of the litter box, the cat litter box cleans up the mess. A raking device sweeps through the litter, forcing any stool into a compartment, which closes to lock in odor. This way your humble abode doesn't smell like it belongs to a cat.
Search for cat litter boxes online and take full advantage of deals that are offered. One wonderful automatic litter box that's currently gracing the market is produced by Fresh Step. While it may cost around 150 dollars in a pet store, websites like Amazon.com often offer it for much less. Check into an automated cat litter box today and get that nasty cat smell out of your house for good.
Cat Litter Box
The trouble with owning a cat has always been finding a good place to put the cat litter box. I have a fifteen year old cat that I have had since she was a little kitten. She has come with me from apartment to apartment and I have always had trouble finding a good place for her litter box.
Every apartment I have lived in was too small and never had an ideal place for a cat litter box. I sometimes kept the cat litter box in my bathroom and used the litter that clumps so that it was easier to clean on a daily basis. Sometimes the cat litter box went in the utility closet when there was one.
I now live in a modest home with a total of about nine hundred square feet. There is a little room off of the kitchen for the washer and dryer. At first thought, this was the perfect place for the cat litter box. I had to reassess this assumption because I did not want my clean clothes coming out of the dryer into a room where the litter box lived. Afraid that having the cat litter box too close to my laundry would cause my clean clothes to pick up the litter box smell, I looked for another place to put it.
Try as you might, you will not be able to quell the smell of a cat litter box with air fresheners or sprays. Your best bet would be to use a litter that contains baking soda or charcoal as these ingredients do a good job of absorbing odors. The goal should always be to absorb odors and not mask them with another one. I found a great litter that had baking soda in it and that did a great job of keeping the cat litter box smell low in my cramped apartment. If you do not want to spend big bucks on a fancy litter, just sprinkle a bit of baking soda in the cat litter box once a week.
I once bought a litter box that had a cover that worked pretty well. There was a little door on the front that my cat would walk through. The apparatus gave her some privacy and helped keep the litter in the box. Cat lovers know that when they use the litter box, they cover what they have left behind by kicking up a bunch of litter which always makes its way out of the box and onto the floor. The box with the cover kept litter off of my floor and kept in odors as well. I highly recommend it for managing odors in your cat-friendly home.
